DATA-Qualifying Training DATA-qualifying training events satisfy the training requirement for a DATA 2000 physician waiver. Per DATA 2000, training that meets the requirement for a waiver may be provided by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and other organizations that the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services determines are appropriate for this purpose. (Note: the American Medical Association is currently not conducting DATA-qualifying training events.) DATA-qualifying training must include not less than eight hours of instruction on the treatment and management of opioid-addicted patients. Non DATA-Qualifying Training Non DATA-qualifying training events also provide instruction on the treatment of opioid addiction, in particular with buprenorphine, but do not satisfy the training requirement for a DATA 2000 waiver. Non DATA-qualifying training events are designed for physicians, addiction counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, pharmacists, psychologists, and others interested in learning more about this new treatment modality. |
